Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa’s new five-day Ayurvedic program at CHI, The Spa invites guests to rejuvenate the body, mind and soul while surrounded by the extraordinary natural beauty of the Maldives.
Through Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old system of Indian healing, the new program combines relaxation with pampering to leave guests feeling refreshed at the end of their stay.
The resort’s practicing Ayurvedic Consultant has developed a holistic Ayurvedic experience aimed at enhancing and restoring physical, mental, social and spiritual harmony. The Ayurvedic program begins with an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultation to find the Dosha type. During the consultation a personalized wellness plan is created focusing on the individual’s doshas. The plan embraces every aspect of Ayurveda including treatments, Ayurvedic menu on basis of Dosha (three energies believed to circulate in the body and govern physiological activity), yoga and meditation.
Signature Ayurvedic treatments are performed in the new Ayurvedic treatment room constructed on the basis of Vasthu Shasthra (traditional Indian architecture) and have traditional Neem wooden Ayurvedic beds. Treatments include Udwarthanam Massage, a therapeutic deep tissue massage with medicated herbal powders designed to tone skin, improves digestion and alleviate sluggishness. Another stand-out choice is Shirodhara, the gentle and rhythmic pouring of oil on to the forehead to induce deep relaxation, a true escape for jet-lag, insomnia and stress.
The island of Villingili is the ideal setting for a wellness retreat, with its untouched natural environment encouraging a deep connection with the elements. Located in the Maldives southernmost atoll, the three-kilometer (almost 2-mile) long island has 12 hectares of lush foliage, towering banyan trees, coconut palms, tropical plants, three natural lagoons and pristine beaches for guests to explore.
Guests can also enjoy yoga and meditation sessions in the yoga pavilion with a view of the aquamarine Indian Ocean beyond, as well as personally tailored menus of fresh simple food to balance the doshas. Herbs and vegetables are grown on island in the Chef’s Garden, along with traditional Ayurvedic root waters and light suppers of locally sourced fish.
CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, draws inspiration from the origins of the Shangri-La legend, a place of personal peace, enchantment and wellbeing. It is a secluded sanctuary located in its own spa village within the resort, with spacious individual treatment villas with private gardens and steam rooms offering a ‘spa-within-a-spa’ environment.
Other activities available at Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa include tennis, golf, diving and snorkeling, exploring the neighboring islands and the local village communities by bike.
