The Spa : Molitor Spa by Clarins

If you feel like running away to Palm Springs or Miami but have obligations in the city, this is the spa for you. It’s just on the fringes of the city limits over in Western Paris’s Auteuil, near the famous tennis stadium, Roland Garros. The vastness of these spa facilities underneath the near Olympic-sized pools (yes, there are two, one that is the summer pool and the other, the winter pool, both heated year-round to a perfect 85°) dwarfs every other spa in central Paris.

Much like the pools, the sheer scale of the spa is impressive. There are thirteen spacious treatment rooms, including two private suites where you can indulge in a full menu of facials, massages, and body treatments, as well as several indulgent Clarins x Molitor rituals: Impatience, a two-hour facial and hand and foot treatment using Parisian pedicure guru Bastien Gonzalez’s cult favorite Révérence de Bastien product line; Dilettante, a half-day of total body bliss that includes a blowout at the on-site Shu Uemura Art of Hair salon; and Athlete, which features a personalized training session followed by a body scrub and a muscle-relaxing massage. If the thought of giving up a poolside chaise in order to maximize the spa’s facility is too much to bear, you can always bring the spa to you: Herbal reflexology, foot treatments, and manicures using Kure Bazaar’s natural polish line are all offered deskside en plein air.

Guests of the hotel, as well as visitors, can book appointments—as can Molitor club members, who gain unrestricted access to the pool and its facilities for an annual fee of 3,300 €; a day-pass runs between 120 € and 180 €.

For 60 years, the Molitor was the most popular pool in Paris. Its two huge pools, its galas and its avant-garde atmosphere made sure of this. Molitor has taken inspiration from this cultural revolution to create a space that is both contemporary and authentic.

Rooms & Services

All rooms feature a Bose© iPod docking station, a Nespresso© coffee machine and a safe. The bathroom is complete with free luxury brand toiletries and a hairdryer. Slippers and bathrobes are included.

Breakfast can be enjoyed every morning in the gourmet restaurant offering pool views. On Sundays, entertainment for children in the morning and early evening can be enjoyed. The second restaurant is seasonal and is set on the rooftop offering a panoramic view of Paris. You can also try a cocktail from the on-site bar.

They’ve added a couple of extra storeys above the changing cabins to house the 124 bedrooms ringing the pool. The style is suave and pared back, if a little impersonal, but well thought out in calm cream and brown, with round tables that convey leisure rather than work and the bed angled towards the pool. I loved the bathroom with its porthole window, large walk-in shower and Clarins ginseng shampoo. Three rooms have original Art Deco, steamer-style portholes, a couple of suites have large terraces overlooking the city, but most have tall floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pool – ours on the first floor cleverly filling the space of old changing cubicle doors.
